SELF ADMINISTERED SURVEY

EHR Best Practices High Level Assessment

Converting paper processes to digital workflow is a major reengineering effort. In the end, however, processes can become more efficient, systems safer and clinical outcomes improved as leading organizations can attest. Within the select group that has received the prestigious HIMSS Nicholas E. Davies Award of Excellence for Electronic Health Record (EHR) implementation, there is proof of the significant value gained from information technology and their use of a comprehensive electronic record.

The reality is that many organizations may be challenged in achieving cost savings and qualitative benefits from EHR implementation due to a lack of knowledge in what is required from vision, leadership and cultural perspectives. Consequently, HCIC has compiled a set of criteria based on the work with the Davies and with the best practices of organizations that have achieved success and derived the full value leading to cost savings and revenue generation. These practices meet the criteria of "meaningful use" defined in The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

This brief confidential survey is a high level representation of the type of best practices an organization should follow in implementing and using the EHR. It measures the EHR’s impact on the transformation of medical practice and the ability for the organization to attain substantial benefit, including ROI, quality improvements and "meaningful use".
