System Selection
HCIC has performed numerous system selections for health care organizations.
Our approach focuses on the unique needs, priorities and culture of the organization to ensure that the system selection is not just a technology decision, but results in a solution to the objectives and organizational transformations desired by a particular organization.
HCIC consultants have extensive expertise in many system products including electronic records, health information exchanges, imaging systems and many clinical disciplines for the different settings of care. We also understand the technology infrastructure including interoperability standards to ensure that the solution fits well into the enterprise technical and information framework.
To assist organizations to make the right decision and to prepare for successful operational strategies, our tools and methods include:
- Organization and project management for the governance, organization, and management needed to guide the project
- Identification of Critical Success Factors (CSF) to align the organization's vision and objectives with reasons for the new system
- Identification of organizational improvements, benchmarks and measures of success
- Involvement of staff, physician leaders and executives in the selection process
- Market survey to identify the vendors most suitable to meet the organization's requirements
- Request for solutions to focus on the "best few" vendors
- Evaluation methodology including detailed instructions and workbooks that document decisions such as in the scoring tool below
- Creation of structured test scenarios to validate the functions in the vendor's released product
- Confirmation of the vendor proposals with past performance, reference checking and site visits
- Establishing performance standards to be incorporated in the contract and to be used to measure the vendor's performance during the system implementation
