Board Facilitation Regarding: HIE Strategic Alternatives Analysis

HealthBridge – Cincinnati, Ohio 

Situation:

HealthBridge has enjoyed remarkable success since its founding as one of the first HIEs in the United States, and currently operates as one of only a handful of such entities to have achieved sustainability without external funding. This truly remarkable achievement has attracted national attention as other communities attempt to set up similar operations across the country.

HealthBridge now faces a potential opportunity to provide assistance to some of these emerging HIEs, and needs to decide at the strategic level whether to pursue these opportunities, and in what fashion.

Solution:

HCIC conducted prerequisite HIE research and facilitated a one-day retreat with HealthBridge board members. Alternative models for working with other HIEs were presented. Additional assistance is ongoing.
