HCIC Community Service

The Health Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) is a volunteer-driven that brings together public and private-sector experts from across the healthcare community to harmonize and recommend the technical standards that are necessary to assure the interoperability of electronic health records. Joan Duke has been a member of HITSP since 2007. She participates on the EHR Technical Committee and is the co-chair of the workgroup that organizes the HITSP Webinars. HITSP.org

Health Level Seven (HL7) is an ANSI accredited standards development organization (SDO) that has developed the most widely used clinical and administrative standards in healthcare. Joan Duke has been a member almost since its inception in 1987. HL7.org

The Nicholas E Davies Award encourages and recognizes excellence in the implementation and use of Electronic Health Record systems. Joan Duke has been a member of the organizational committee since 2004. HIMSS.org/ASP/daviesAward.asp

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) is the healthcare industry's membership organization exclusively focused on providing leadership for the optimal use of healthcare information technology (IT) and management systems for the betterment of healthcare. All HCIC Principals are members of HIMSS. Denise Reeser served on the HIMSS RHIO Best Practices Task Force and continues to participate as the Maryland’s Chapter RHIO Liaison. HIMSS.org

The Maryland Chapter of HIMSS (MDHIMSS) provides leadership for the State’s IT professionals. Joan Duke was president in 1998 and 1990 and then Treasurer. Denise Reeser was Program Chair for the 2007/2008 year and will continue in that role for the 2008/2009 year. Denise is also the President Elect.  MDHIMSS.org

The Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) is devoted to advancing computer applications and information technology in medical imaging through education and research. George is a board member of SIIM, where he chairs the Education Advisory Network on PACS Administration. SIIMWEB.org

HealthTechNet – The Healthcare Technology Network of Greater Washington, one of the first of its kind in the area, is a networking group dedicated to helping healthcare technology professionals stay connected with each other, learn about new trends in the field, and serving as a discussion forum for public policy issues affecting healthcare technology. Its diverse membership includes CEOs and senior executives of healthcare technology companies in the area, senior government officials, and provider representatives. Jim was a co-founder of the network and serves on its program committee. healthtechnet.org

MHCC – Maryland Health Care Commission. Denise Reeser participated as an interested IT professional in meetings of the Maryland Task Force to Study Electronic Medical Records and is currently serving on the Task Force for Service Area Health Information Exchange (SAHIE). mhcc.maryland.gov

NoVA RHIO - Northern Virginia Regional Health Information Organization. Jim Oakes serves on the technology and infrastructure committee of this effort to launch a RHIO in the Northern Virginia market. nvrhio.gmu.edu
