Jim KraukJim Krauk has over 25 years of successful management experience in information technology and computer systems as both an executive and a consultant. Jim is a dynamic leader with superior planning abilities, excellent communication skills, and an extremely high project success rate. He has deep experience in working with major collaborative IT projects across organizations making him well suited for consulting to complex stakeholder-based health information exchanges. Jim received a B.S. in engineering from Johns Hopkins University.

Jim built on his experience with health information technology to assist in the development of health information exchanges. Jim recently worked with the Maryland Health Care Commission (MHCC) in an effort to understand and evaluate the readiness of healthcare providers and payers to participate in a Maryland Health Information Exchange (HIE). The focus of this assessment was privacy and security policies and business practices and their impact on electronic HIE.

Jim also worked with the State of Delaware to develop a state-wide Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO) plan and associated Request for Proposal (RFP) to implement the plan. This effort required the integration of numerous constituencies throughout the state such as physicians, hospitals, labs, pharmacies, insurers and governmental agencies as well as their technology platforms and application systems. Delaware is the first HIE to be implemented on a state-wide basis.

In previous years, Jim was the project manager for CareFirst's major reengineering and conversion effort. This project was undertaken not only to meet the HIPAA requirements but to vastly improve their internal workflow and efficiency. Jim also organized and administered the HIPAA training program for XLHealth; a rapidly growing disease management company, headquartered in Baltimore with locations in eight states.

Jim was the Vice President and Chief Information Officer (VP/CIO) for Helix Health –– the largest healthcare provider in Maryland (now MedStar Health). As Helix Health's first CIO, Jim was responsible for all information services across the entire spectrum of organizations and companies. Helix Health was a 2400 bed integrated delivery system consisting of 5 acute care hospitals, 3 nursing homes, a large physician organization, a home health agency, and other healthcare related businesses. Helix had $650 million in annual net operating revenues, employed 11,000 people, and had 2,500 affiliated physicians. Jim developed the initial Helix information systems strategic plan, consolidated all aspects of information services, and led the newly centralized staff of 150 professionals in carrying out the strategic initiatives. All projects were completed on-time and within budget.

Jim headed AT&T's 1984 Summer Olympic Operations in Los Angeles. He planned, implemented and directed the largest temporary telecommunications network ever installed. The Olympic Network included 2000 terminals, 15 super-computers and 70,000 users spread throughout 4500 square miles of southern California.

Jim led the Computer Systems Planning Organization for a Fortune 100 company. He was responsible for the corporation's five-year data processing plan. He proposed and implemented nationwide information processing network and management structure that resulted in savings of $11 million and a 100 percent improvement in user satisfaction.
