Ms. Klein is a Healthcare Information Technology professional with over 15 years of experience working in the healthcare industry in both the public and private sectors. Ms. Klein's areas of expertise include healthcare IT strategic planning, operational and process improvement, patient safety program initiatives, and implementation planning and program management. Ms. Klein's experience has been gained in various clinical environments including community hospitals, multi-specialty clinics, integrated delivery networks (IDNs), and academic medical centers.

In the public sector, Ms. Klein has worked with the VA, CDC, AHRQ, NQF and agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services to facilitate administrative and operational efficiencies, the development of the NHIN program response, patient safety standards, as well as promote the adoption of health IT standards across multiple agencies.

Representative Client Experience

Ms. Klein's experience includes IT strategic planning, systems selections, vendor management, financial planning and resource leveling for EMR implementations and application portfolio management. She has also assisted health systems implementing community and system-wide EMRs by developing data use agreements, conducting readiness assessments, training physicians and developing models for local and regional health information exchanges (HIEs).

Ms. Klein has provided the following consulting services to healthcare providers including:

  • Program management and implementation of an electronic medical record (EMR) system rollout in ambulatory clinics across a major medical center in Northern NJ
  • Managed clinical team in developing process improvements and operational efficiencies
  • Developed proposals, work plans, timelines, budgets, and coordinated IT staff and vendors to complete enterprise-wide electronic health record implementation projects
  • Created and delivered training curricula for physicians, clinical staff, and non-clinical staff for new EMR and other clinical and practice management systems
  • Evaluated and completed assessments of current IT environments, and developed a vision for the desired future state; determined business and technical requirements, articulated the clinical strategy, and identified budgets and risks to the executive levels of health systems
  • Developed technical, business and clinical requirements for multiple EMR and PM systems
  • Developed EMR/PM RFPs and analyzed responses, demos, and developed evaluation criteria

Prior Experience

Prior to her consulting career, Ms. Klein trained as a behavior therapist at Children's Seashore House in Philadelphia and worked in the bio-behavioral inpatient unit as a clinical intern working with pediatric patients. She also managed a clinical research center at the University of Pennsylvania, Department of Psychiatry in the School of Medicine and worked with the faculty to increase grant funding from $1 to $5M to become the largest clinical center in the Department.

Education/Affiliations

Ms. Klein received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Biology at the University of Pennsylvania, and also completed post-graduate coursework at The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

For over 10 years, Ms. Klein has been an active member of the Healthcare Information & Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and is currently a Senior

Member and received her CPHIMS (Certified Professional in Health Information Management) through HIMSS.

Ms. Klein also served on the Board of Directors for the HIMSS – NCA (National Capital Area) Chapter from 2006-2008. She has served on many additional national and local committees including the HIMSS EHR Implementation Task Force, the HL7 Public Health Special Interest Group (SIG), the HL7-X12N subcommittee, the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) healthcare committee, the Northern Virginia RHIO, and HealthTechNet in Washington, DC.

 Ms. Klein has published and presented to organizations including HIMSS, the MedInfo Congress, AMGA, MGMA, the NOVA RHIO, HIMSS, and has co-authored two books entitled, "Guide to the Electronic Medical Practice" and “Advances in Federal Sector through Innovations in Information Technology and Strategy”, published by Springer-Verlag and HIMSS.
