Representative Experience
- Ms. Van Orden was most recently the CIO at small to mid-size hospitals in Texas and New Mexico. She developed IT Strategic Plans supporting the hospital strategic plans at both organizations. As CIO, she led the search for an integrated HIS including Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) and physician documentation at a 250 bed hospital, using a streamlined selection process, extensive user committee input (including physicians) and completed the process through contract negotiations in 8 months. At the smaller facility, the infrastructure had been neglected and required extensive improvement to enable the hospital to implement clinical application upgrades and additional applications to support HIPAA requirements. She directed upgrades to the computer room, network, mutiple servers, PC replacments, multi-function devices, remote access and implemented a Storage Area Network with real time, off site backup of clinical documentation systems, eliminating tape backups.
- Previously Ms. Van Orden was recruited to a health plan in New Mexico to improve IT department processes in a department that had extensive downtime, difficulty delivering solutions to users and was very poorly regarded by its users. She developed and conducted Customer Quality Assessment interviews (with metrics) to assess health plan management’s view of IT, including areas for improvement and led IT management in addressing customer’s concerns, raising the IT rating (scale of 1 to 10) from 5.2 to 6.9 between August 1999 and June 2000. As a result of the Customer Satisfaction interview process, she directed IS and business process re-engineering projects including developing the methodology for process definition, design, development and implementation; the development and implementation of IT Change Management; a Software Version Control process and software; End User Governance, User Request process and supporting software; Quality Assurance process and others.
